The Supreme Court will on Wednesday hear the Mayawati government's petition for lifting the stay on the construction activities at memorials and parks at Lucknow.

UP Chief Secretary Atul Kumar Gupta will be appearing before the Supreme Court.

The apex court during the last hearing, not satisfied with his affidavit, directed him to appear personally.

The Supreme Court is examining whether the UP government has committed contempt of court by violating its orders.

The apex court had stayed all construction activities of memorials, statues and parks at Lucknow, which are subject matter pending before the Allahabad High Court.

After reports of violation of the court's order, Chief Secretary was directed to file affidavit and appear personally in the court.

The Chief Secretary in his affidavit tendered unqualified apology but stuck to his stand that there was no violation of court's orders.

The Mayawati government also moved a petition to vacate stay on construction activities saying it resulted in serious problems of maintenance of the memorials and the cost of construction may go up.
