The Sena-BJP combine today met the Governor and demanded the imposition of President's rule in the state, where the Congress and the NCP have failed to form a government even after two weeks since poll results were declared. Meanwhile, caretaker chief minister Ashok Chavan has got down to work. He has called three meetings at the secretariat today- on price rise of essential commodities, cotton purchase scheme and law and order. Yesterday, a worried governor met Chavan and Deputy Chief Minister designate and NCP leader Chaggan Bhujbal separately, to review progress on government formation. The Congress and NCP are still bickering over who gets what portfolio and the delay prompted the governor to ask them to explain what's going on. The Congress immediately struck a conciliatory note. "Both parties need to cooperate to form the government. They are slowing things down," said Manikrao Thakre, state Congress chief. He said there was no question of the Congress staking claim to form the next government alone. Of the two faces that the NCP has projected, unbending Chaggan Bhujbal has declared: "We have said we will support the government from outside and when our issues are sorted out we will join the government."
